Justifying My Hate

We all have two sides. The good side and the bad side. Carl Jung called the good side as ''self''' and bad side as ''shadow'' which are two important aspects of personality.  Carl Jung believed that a shadow lurks in all of us, even without our realization. It's the little demon we all carry, which connects in groups, and in societies, turning individual darkness into collective darkness.

The instinct of hate is not inherent in human nature. It's a defense mechanism. It's to protect us from our pains and fears. We walk, we get our feet pricked by a sharp object. If the event is repeated, the sharp objects induce fears. Later, as fears grow stronger, they give rise to hate.

So, why do we hate? Is it because we see people hating? Is it because we are hated? Or is it because it's needed for survival?

Carl Jung gave the idea of "archetypes" i.e. the representation of an idea in a society. The label of good is associated with a certain place, event, person, act and so on. Similarly the idea of bad is associated with a certain place, event, person and so on. It forms the ideas of culturally approved good and culturally approved bad in society as well as people living in a society.

Sometimes we see a person, we just click with them, forming a liking to them. Sometimes we see a person and we just don't click, forming a dislike. But dislike doesn't give birth to hate. Hate is a very strong, utter repulsion from something or someone. Sometimes, hate has reasons and sometimes, it has no reason.

So, hate is there. Amongst people, by how much we hate each other. Amongst countries, how much they hate each other. Amongst races, how much superior we feel.  Amongst classes. Amongst ranks. Amongst genders. Amongst people on basis of differences. You name it, you'll find all kinds of the flower in this bouquet of hate.

The point is, what's the point of hate? Is it really justifiable? Is it really a savior? Is it serving it's evolutionary purpose? Is our hate, shielding us, or is it destroying us?

We feel threat and we end up destroying what we feel threatened of. We feel hate and end up destroying what we hate. The seeds of hate are sown in the earth of time. We were tormented, now we are tormentors. The tormentors will become tormented in near future. Thus, hate cycle continues. You destroyed what you hated. In some way, it will re-born and come back to you, to destroy you.

So, hate is a never-ending cycle of destruction. You keep acting on it, keep yourself in it's loop and it consumes you. It takes away all energy from your self and puts it inside the shadow. The shadow rides your instincts, over-riding your rational self. You are consumed, you consume, and the cycle repeats itself.

So what's the answer? Hate is destructive, but how to save yourself? How do you break this cycle?

No one is born to hate and no one wants to keep hating, to hurt others. It seems difficult to accept but the truth is: humans do care about each other. It's the fear that the good side will not find good side is when the bad side takes over. We all want to be heroes. No one wants to be a villain. Even those who want to be a villain, want to be praised, to be accepted, to be loved. We always associate hate as a weapon against evil. Though we might not be sure if the evil is real or just inside our head, everyone wants to hate the evil. But in process of hating the evil, we become evil ourselves.

In short, hate consumes us. Evil consumes us. The very weapon we design to destroy evil i.e. hate, becomes the greatest source of victory of evil.

So? what now? What could be the solution?

It's forgiveness. It's seeing the evil, the bad, and trying to cease it without fear, without negativity, without hate. It's about believing in good even when good is invisible. It's striving for better even when good seems waste of time. It's all in your forgiveness.

Believe in forgiveness, end the cycle of hate.
